FINLAYS JOINS UNITED NATIONS GLOBAL COMPACT TO CREATE A MORE SUSTAINABLE BEVERAGE INDUSTRY

Finlays, a leading global supplier of tea, coffee and extracts, is delighted to announce it has joined the United Nations Global Compact — a voluntary leadership platform for the development, implementation, and disclosure of responsible business practices. In joining the UN Global Compact, Finlays has committed to taking responsible business action to help create a more sustainable beverage industry.

Launched in 2000, the UN Global Compact is the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world, with more than 15,000 companies and 3,500 non-business signatories based in over 160 countries, and 70+ Local Networks. It calls on companies everywhere to align their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption, and to take action in support of UN goals and issues embodied in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Finlays’ joining of the UN Global Compact is a critical milestone in the delivery of its Sustainable Future 2030 sustainability strategy, and in particular the ‘Our People’ pillar which has the mission to advance human rights to empower all.

Joe Yalley-Ogunro, Finlays’ Group Head of Sustainability explains, “Our industry relies on intensive labour practices, and people within growing regions are typically at a higher risk of human rights and labour risks. By joining the UN Global Compact, we can demonstrate we are taking ownership of these risks, particularly across the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption. The ‘Our People’ pillar of our sustainability strategy will see us continue to take robust and proactive approach to risk prevention and mitigation.”

Steve Kenzie, Executive Director, UN Global Company Network UK says: “The core of the United Nations Global Compact’s mission is to support companies doing business responsibly by aligning their strategies and operations with ten universal principles on human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption,”. “We also support business taking actions to advance the Sustainable Development Goals. We are delighted and encouraged by Finlay’s endorsement of our initiative.”
